The Butter Bot Robot Can Move Autonomously, Recognize Faces, and Communicate with Its Owner Using Voice from the Show
Geek Club and CircuitMess have developed a functional replica of the Butter Bot robot from the popular animated series Rick and Morty. This is reported by The Verge.
As noted by the publication, the new Butter Bot can move around, recognize faces, and communicate with people. To achieve this, it is equipped with a camera, speaker, microphone, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The robot is powered by a dual-core processor and a 1000 mAh battery.
The robot can be controlled using a wireless remote, which features several buttons for activating sounds and pre-programmed actions, as well as a small screen that can display live video feed from its camera.
Using artificial intelligence, a camera, and sensors, the Butter Bot can move autonomously and avoid obstacles, such as the edge of a table. It can also respond to voice commands, utilizing a library of 1,000 phrases spoken in the voice of Butter Bot from the animated series.
The robot is currently available for pre-order through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for $139, with the first shipments scheduled for August 2025.
It’s worth noting that Butter Bot became a meme icon due to a scene in Episode 9 of Season 1 of Rick and Morty. In this episode, the newly built robot asks Rick, “What is my purpose?” to which Rick replies, “You butter toast.”
