In 2023, General Motors (GM) discontinued Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles, citing a desire to create a “more deeply integrated” platform. However, not all users were pleased with this change. As a result, a third-party company, White Automotive and Media Services (WAMS), offered a solution — a kit that brings the popular smartphone display features back to Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.
What’s Known?
On its website, WAMS promises full integration of both wired and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto without compromising existing features. The kit supports models including the Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer, Silverado EV, as well as the GMC Sierra EV and Cadillac Lyriq 2025. A demo video shows the familiar Apple CarPlay interface on the central display. The integration looks almost factory-installed: it even supports voice assistants Siri and Google Assistant, as well as Apple Maps navigation displayed on the dashboard and Head-Up Display.WAMS has not yet revealed how the kit works or announced its price. It is also unclear whether this addition will affect the factory warranty or block the vehicle from receiving OTA software updates. Finally, WAMS states that, for now, the kit is available for installation only at the LaFontaine Chevrolet dealership in Plymouth, Michigan.
