Forrester, a global technology research firm, released a report identifying the ten emerging technologies that companies should keep on their radar. The 30-page report categorizes these technologies into short-term, mid-term, and long-term trends, explaining their potential benefits, business value, key use cases, and associated risks.

Short-term technologies include:

Mid-term technologies are:

Forrester highlights generative AI for visual content as a major innovation with huge potential for marketers and creative industries. This technology accelerates creativity, enabling companies managing multiple brands to see significant benefits. However, risks such as distorted features in visual outputs, unintended likenesses of public figures, and legal issues regarding copyright infringement of training data or visuals must be considered.

Aaron J. Rafferty, founder of Tech Buzz and StandardDAO, explained the benefits: “What was once a 10-step process will now be completed in one. Creators will focus on improving content, while their distribution channels multiply overnight.”

Transforming Customer Service

Generative AI for language is also poised to revolutionize customer service by extracting and utilizing unstructured data, allowing businesses to handle high volumes of customer inquiries without adding extra staff. Rafferty pointed to Klarna’s example, where AI-driven customer service has significantly reduced expenses and workforce size. While there are current concerns about AI trustworthiness, Forrester noted that trust in these technologies will grow as familiarity with their capabilities increases.

These devices are potential entry points for cyberattacks, and traditional security solutions are often inadequate. Experts like Krishna Vishnubhotla from Zimperium and John Gallagher from Viakoo Labs stress the importance of robust security measures to safeguard both IoT and mobile devices, especially given the rising threats such as ransomware and disruptions in vital services.

Quantum Security: A Paradigm Shift

Forrester also predicts that quantum security, using principles of quantum mechanics and quantum-resistant algorithms, will radically transform cryptography and communications security. While some analysts believe quantum computing’s impact is still years away, others, like Duncan Jones from Quantinuum, argue that quantum technology could eventually enhance cybersecurity by making systems more resilient. However, organizations are advised to start preparing by cataloging areas requiring quantum-safe encryption and planning long-term transitions.
